The US pop singer Janet Jackson and rockers Metallica are set to perform in Abu Dhabi next month, local daily Gulf News reported on Tuesday.

The six time Grammy Award-winner Jackson will play at Yas Arena on October 13, while Metallica will perform at the same venue on October 25 as part of the Yas Island Show Weekend series, the report said.

Jackson will only perform music exclusively from her chart-topping album Number Ones.

"These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done. I will be as up close and personal as possible. These concerts are not about special effects. The music will all be songs that you’ve made number one for me," the daily quoted the pop singer as saying.

Tickets for the Jackson concert, priced Dhs 265, Dhs 365 and Dhs 665, are available at thinkflash.ae. Metallica tickets are expected to go on sale in the coming weeks, the report added.

Yas Island Show Weekends have entertained more than 150,000 spectators, with acts including Nelly Furtado, Guns N’ Roses, The Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder.

HBR details an interesting finding by Sreedhari Desai that states:

"Adults are less likely to cheat and more likely to engage in “pro-social” behaviors when reminders of children, such as teddy bears and crayons, are present."

In the labs it was found that subjects near toys or engaged in activities like watching cartoons:

The number of cheaters dropped almost 20%.
Were far more likely to form “moral” words like “pure” and “virtue” than those who weren’t.
People behaved better in the presence of childhood cues even if they weren’t feeling particularly happy.

The front page of (almost) everything in the world has been splattered with the news about Steve Job's resignation. FJ Bliss delivered the news to me ... I felt like a child who was told that "Daddy is the tooth fairy".

A more detailed rendition of the feelings surging through this Apple fanatic is portrayed by this video:

... but then, if you actually take the time to read all the editorials, you start to form a rational opinion of your own ...

You start to think, was the clout to the Apple stock price misplaced? Is Apple suffering from a conjoined brand with its (former) CEO like Virgin suffers with Richard Branson?

The general sentiment is no, Apple is a sustainable engine of awesome.

Before transforming Apple, Steve Jobs was transformed by Apple. Steve's leadership was focused not only on creating great products, but getting everyone else to create great products too (source). In this sense, Steve embedded his DNA into the culture at Apple; in Tim Cook's own words to Apple's employee's:

Steve built a company and culture that is unlike any other in the world and we are going to stay true to that—it is in our DNA. We are going to continue to make the best products in the world that delight our customers and make our employees incredibly proud of what they do. (via MacRumors)

What does this all mean? Well it means that Apple now faces a paradoxical challenge: to transition into this change without changing its promise to customers - bloody amazing products!

... with that said, it seems like Jobs is going to be at arms length - directing Apple's product strategy (source).

Ever walked into the restaurant or cafe you regularly visit and find someone sitting in the place you usually sit in? ... and then that irksome feeling sets it
... "someone's sitting in my chair"

Ever notice how a group of people walk into a cafe or restaurant when you're just about to finish your meal or coffee, they have a seat at a table near by and send devious looks your way ... you begin to feel irritated, ask for the bill, pay.
As soon as your bum leaves the chair the vultures rush the table you left.
You were sitting at their table.

HBR's Daily Stat gives some insight on this feeling of entitlement in public places:

In a study by Marco Costa, of the University of Bologna, 66% of students observed in lecture halls over a six-week period chose the same seat, or an adjacent one, every time.

Costa says the study, titled “Territorial Behavior in Public Settings,” suggests that restaurants and hotels could boost satisfaction by giving repeat customers the same table or room on each visit and that companies could reduce worker anxiety by holding recurring meetings in the same conference room.

If you've even been to The Baking Tray cafe you'll see this phenomenon in action ... there is only one table with cushions - fluffy seats make happy customer bums - and everyone wants to sit on it. Others will want to sit in the only corner that has a degree of privacy provided by the building's support pillar.

This isn't limited to the food industry. An example from a local gym experience: In 2010 I purchased a 1 year subscription with a locker - number 10. I renewed my subscription in 2011 and did not buy a locker key - instead I used whatever locker was available. The receptionist, however, made sure I got locker number 10 every day ... Guess what? Locker number 10 feels special - epic customer service win.

So for your next visit to your favourite hangout, watch yourself. Are you sitting in your usual seat? ... does the food taste better? You're exhibiting Territorial Behavior in Public Settings.

When I was born, my mother gave her Rolex to the nurse ... I bet that was the nurse's retirement package.

Google buys Motorola Mobility

Google announced that it will purchase Motorola Mobility ~

"The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business." ~ Tech Crunch

It will be interesting to see how competition (RIM and Apple) react to this move by Google ... and even more so how other Android partners react to this move.

Microsoft, who are trying to get their mobile operating system to take off, can use this as leverage to attract mobile hardware partners.

As a consumer, you are given infinite choices of products, services, and goods. Why? Marketing. Some company wants to get at your pockets before the other company - thereby passing the power of preference to the consumer.

... but the consumer works in a company ... with deeper pockets ... bigger appetites ... and scarier people ...

Everyday, we wake up, go to work, and load up a Windows machine, launch internet explorer, and search on Bing.

Guess what happens to that consumer's choice in the world of the corporation? POOF! GONE!!

The reason I look forward to going home is to sit on my single button mac, load up firefox, and search using Google.

I honestly loved it on my friend in the picture above, she's wearing different shades of blue in each nail.

I wouldn't be interested in wearing different colors in each finger. However, I said i wouldn't do alot of things and ended up doing them.. haha so I guess we'll see :)

Well I have both, and I can compare directly.. But to make it short... Android has features that iPhone is still trying to catch up even with iOS5.
Note : I installed iOS 5 developer beta 5 on my iPhone and still Samsung is much better.
